Donald Grubb, 75 - June 17, 2009

Donald J. Grubb, 75, of Howard, CO, died Saturday, June 6, 2009.
A celebration of life service was held on June 13 at the Howard Volunteer Fire Department station in Howard.
Grubb was born and raised at Branchton, PA, and graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1951.
He was the husband of Anne. The couple were planning to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary June 26.
Grubb served two years with the fourth infantry of the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, WA. He then continued his education majoring in criminal justice and sociology.
His teaching venues included Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, VA, where he was honored as professor emeritus, Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, and the Department of Corrections in Buena Vista, CO.
Grubb was currently a professor at Pueblo Community College in Cañon City in addition to being a popular substitute teacher at local area schools, according to family members.
He was involved with law enforcement and corrections for 40 years. In 1966, he graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy and was later a criminal investigator with the Denver District Attorney’s Office organized crime unit.
Grubb also worked as a park ranger for the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area in Salida, CO, and drove the Ark Valley Ambulance in connection with Howard Volunteer Fire Department.
?He enjoyed writing fiction and non-fiction stories and plays, family members said. Two of his plays were performed at the Salida Steam Plant Theater and Event Center and two were performed at the Jones Theater in Westcliffe.
Grubb enjoyed story-telling with his grandchildren, and taking his family fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and swimming, according to family members.
?He was proceeded in death by: his parents, John F. and Kathryn V. Grubb; a niece and a nephew, Joanna and Johnathan Brydon, all of Pennsylvania.
?Survivors include: his wife, Anne; sons—Daniel J. Grubb (Lani Meyer) of Lexington, and David (Lesley) Grubb of Cranston, RI; a daughter, Diane (Gail) James of Gothenburg; grandchildren—Michael, Brian and Kayla Grubb, Casey and Garrett James and Damien and Dylan Grubb; sister, Helen Brydon and son, Tom Brydon, of Slippery Rock.
