Jack Schultz, 89 - July 04, 2011

Jack C Schultz, 89, of Gothenburg, formerly of Farnam, died July 4, 2011, at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 11, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12.
Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell.
Schultz was born June 1, 1922, near Eustis the son of Ferdinand Christian Otto Schultz and Ruby Mae (Johnson) Schultz.
He grew up in the Eustis and Farnam area. He attended country school near Eustis and graduated from Lexington High School in 1939. He also graduated from University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1943.
After completing college and ROTC, Schultz became a first lieutenant in the 1948th Aviation Engineers Utility Company, where he served from 1943-1946. While in the service he lived in San Antonio, Spokane and Salt Lake City. After his honorable discharge from the service, he lived in Hayes Center, Curtis and Farnam areas.
Schultz married Mell V. Polson on Nov. 2, 1944, at San Antonio, TX; to this union two daughters were born, Cheryl Kay and Gayle Lynn.
He worked as the Frontier-Hayes County Extension agent for five years. He was a farmer and also taught for a while. He was a member of the American Legion Post 288, the Rural Fire Board where he served as president from 1975-1995and the Farnam Lion’s Club and he served on the Farnam Public School board of education.
?He loved Nebraska football, gardening, computers and making pictures and videos for friends and family, according to family members. He loved the beauty of nature, traveling and sightseeing.
Schultz was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Schultz and niece Cindy Schultz.
Surviving are: wife, Mell Vinnie Schultz of Gothenburg; two daughters—Cheryl (Paul L) Mista of Severance, CO, Gayle (Perry) Greco of North Platte; grandson Eric (Samantha) Arnold; great-grandson Neil Josiah; sister-in-law Ruth Ann (Boyd) Schultz-Wakelin of Brock; nephew Jim (Michelle) Schultz and their children Curtis and Nathan of Kansas City, MO; along with numerous extended family and friends.
Memorials may be given to the Farnam VFW or the Farnam Lions Club.
