Sara Jane Ostergard, 85 - October 20, 2011
Sara Jane Ostergard, 85, of Gothenburg passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services are planned for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Ostergard was born July 13, 1926, on the family farm south of North Platte to Fred and Lula (Dawson) Moore. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1943.
She was united in marriage to Gage Ostergard on July 7, 1946, at the Antelope Baptist Church south of Gothenburg. Her husband passed away on Sept. 19, 2011.
Ostergard was employed with Union Life Insurance in Lincoln and Farmland Service Coop and Wheelers in Gothenburg.
Along with her husband, she volunteered as a Hospice care-griever, helped make noodles at the Gothenburg Senior Center, provided food for the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Gothenburg and staffed the 4-H cafe at the County Fair in Lexington.
She was a member of the Dawson County Extension Club and the Gothenburg First United Methodist Church where she was involved with the United Methodist Woman and the projects that helped the new church building.
Ostergard was preceded in death by: her parents, Fred and Lula; her husband of 65 years, Gage.
Survivors include: her daughter, Barbara Jean (Chuck) Havlicek of Manhattan, KS; sons—Steve (JoAn) of Gothenburg, Nic (Karlene) of Callaway and John (Janet) of Grand Island; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Moore, Jr. of Gothenburg; special nephew, Joe (Mandy) Moore; a great-niece and great-nephew of Gothenburg; numerous other relatives.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, NE, and the Dawson County 4-H Foundation.
