Richard Eugene Hoaglund, 83 - March 04, 2012

Richard “Eugene” Hoaglund, 83, of Brady passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center at North Platte.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 9, at the Brady United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jamie Freeman officiating. Inurnment will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
Those wishing to sign the register book may do so from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday, March 8, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
Hoaglund was born on his grandparents’ homestead at Brady to Edwin and Edith Brown Hoaglund on March 14, 1928, and besides his time in the service, he lived his entire life on that property.
He graduated from Brady High School in 1946, and worked for his father and neighbors before enlisting with the United States Army at the outbreak of the Korean War. He was stationed in New Jersey with the radio corps, and entered the reserves in 1952 and was fully discharged in 1957.
Hoaglund returned home where he farmed and ranched the rest of his life. He married high school sweetheart Beverly Coon on April 25, 1954.
He served 25 years on the Brady School Board, and also served on the Gaslin Cemetery Board and the United Methodist Church Board in Brady. He was a member of the American Legion and was a three-time cancer survivor.
Hoaglund was preceded in death by: his parents, Edwin and Edith; infant brothers—Edwin J. and Delbert S.; a brother, Vernon; brothers-in-law—Dale Fattig and James Coon.
Survivors include: his wife, Beverly of Brady; sons—Richard (Linda) Hoaglund and Jeffery (Sally Jo) Hoaglund, all of North Platte, and Patrick (Julie) Hoaglund of Brady; sisters—Marian Fattig of Brady and Pamela Jo Koss of North Platte; sisters-in-law—Margaret Coon and Lois Hoaglund; grandchildren—Corey Hoaglund, Casey (Becky) Hoaglund, Jessica (Tim) Johnson, Jeanie (Alex) Roeder, Jennifer Hoaglund, Kim (Brian) Flanders, Jason (Nancy) Ross, Kerri Ross, Lindsay (Aaron) Niles, Kelli (Matt Wiiest) Hoaglund and Tiffany Hoaglund; great-grandchildren—Haylie Hoaglund, Chloe Hoaglund, Caedmon Hoaglund, Jacob Hoaglund, Eathan Johnson, Chase Johnson, Bailey Roeder, Joseph Roeder, Aliyah Hoaglund, Isaac Hoaglund, Karli Flanders, Jaeli Flanders, Emma Flanders, Jordan Ross, Brodey Ross, Akilah Ross, Kaden Ross and Gavin Niles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Brady United Methodist Church and the Callahan Cancer Center.
