Ronald Meester, 64 - March 18, 2012
Ronald “Ron” Eugene Meester, 64, of North Platte, formerly of Gothenburg, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at his home in North Platte following a battle with COPD and emphysema.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Wednesday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with family present 4-6 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew Groenke officiating. Interment will follow at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Meester was born June 16, 1947, at Gothenburg, son of Walter J. and Hannah (Johanning) Meester. He grew up in Gothenburg and attended Gothenburg Public Schools.
He had many different jobs throughout his life, but he always said that the best time of his life was when he was the site supervisor at Windy Peak outdoor lab in Bailey, CO, according to family members. He was able to work with school kids from the Jefferson County School system teaching them outdoor activities.
Meester loved to be outdoors and enjoyed fishing and driving his truck, family members said. He was a woodworker and metal worker. He also enjoyed spending time with his cat, Amber, and his dog, Toad.
He had lived at the Pawnee Hotel since 2006, where he made some great friends and met Karin whom he loved to spend time with, said family members. She took care of him during his illness with cancer until his death.
Meester was preceded in death by: his father, Walter J. Meester; his mother, Hannah Meester; brothers—Larry in 2006 and infant brother, Terry Lavern; an infant sister, Betty Lou; grandparents—Folkert and Ellen Johanning and Wyatt and Grace Meester.
Survivors include: his special friend and caregiver, Karin Cain of North Platte; a brother, Bob (Priscilla) Meester of Lexington; sisters—Shirley G.(Ed) Claflin of Gothenburg, and Bonnie (Clifford) Wedemeyer of Cheyenne, WY; former spouses, Linda McCollum and Carol Volesky; sister-in-law, Linda Meester of Cozad; nieces—Michelle (Mike) Courtney of Lincoln, Melissa (Terry) Walker of Gothenburg, Heide Deharty of Grand Island, Becky Brooks of North Platte, Angie (Bill) Shafer of Centennial, CO, Brenda (Brett) Manus of Albuquerque, NM, Johannah (Eric) Ducy of Wheatland, WY, Kim (Todd) Rosenthal of Lincoln, and Amanda G’Schwind of Lexington; nephews—Wyatt (Sandy) Meester of Cozad and William (Erica) Wedemeyer of Cheyenne, WY; great- and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and his Pawnee Retirement Hotel family.
