Betty DeFruiter, 82 - May 20, 2009
Betty Lucille DeFruiter, 82, of Arapahoe, formerly of Gothenburg died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Arapahoe.
Services were held Wednesday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel at Gothenburg with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Burial took place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
DeFruiter was born May 10, 1927, to John and Minnie (Jensen) Selk at Lexington. She attended and graduated school at Lexington High School.
She was employed with Monroe and worked on the production line for 28 years.
In 1945, she married David C. Frew at Lexington.
She was united in marriage to Alfred DeFruiter at Gothenburg in 1972, the couple continuing to reside at Gothenburg.
DeFruiter enjoyed bowling in her early years and also enjoyed her vegetable gardens, playing cards, flowers and baking, especially cakes, according to family members. She also enjoyed her grandchildren as well as crocheting afghans, sewing and making clothing for her daughters growing up, cooking and music.
She was a member of Methodist Circles, Eastern Star, and enjoyed teaching Sunday and Bible schools, said family members.
DeFruiter was preceded in death by: a husband, Alfred John DeFruiter; her father, John Selk; mother, Minnie Selk; her ex-husband, David C. Frew; a brother, Dale Robert Selk; grandson, Chad Naylor.
?Survivors include: her daughters—Cynthia “Cindy” (Dick) MaMahon of Rockford, IL, Patricia “Trish” (Roger) Houser of Cambridge, Marsha Ellison of Gothenburg, and Becky (Darrel) Naylor of Brighton, CO; granddaughters—Jami (Dan) Schulz, Stephanie (friend, Tom) Fochtman and Catherine (friend, Chuck) Fochtman; grandsons—Paul (friend, Jamie) Fochtman, Michael Fochtman and fiancé Jessica, Dustin Naylor, Bronson Naylor and Heath Naylor; great-granddaughters—Krista Besler, Jadan Schulz, Sara Fochtman, Anna Miller and Libby Miller; great-grandsons—Cody Head, Brendan Head and Dustin Miller.
