Ray J. Ostendorf, 80 - November 06, 2012Ray J. Ostendorf, 80, of Gothenburg died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services will take place at the First Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 9, at 10:30 am. with the Rev. Bill Ivey officiating. Interment will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ostendorf was born July 13, 1932, at Gothenburg, son of Ray E. and Dorothy (Spencer) Ostendorf.
He grew up at Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High with the Class of 1952.
Ostendorf had resided in Gothenburg all of his life except for when he lived in Idaho from 1960 to 1962.
In 1956, he was united in marriage to Helen Bihlmaier at Cozad. To this union, four children were born.
Ostendorf was employed with the Dawson County Department of Roads as a heavy equipment operator.
He enjoyed attending auctions, square dancing, fishing, cards and gardening as well as spending time on his hobby farm with horses, pigs, calves and all kinds of birds, according to family members.
Ostendorf was preceded in death by: his parents, Ray and Dorothy; two half-sisters—Vera Starks and Faith Henslee.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen Ostendorf of Gothenburg; three daughters—Shirley Ostendorf of Lincoln, Peggy (Terry) Fogelstrom of Kent, WA, and Becky (Scott) Ontjes of Kansas City, MO; a son, Alan (Carol) Ostendorf of Broken Bow; his twin sister, Faye June (Carl) Schmeeckle of Gothenburg; brother, Henry Roger (Margaret) Ostendorf of Henderson, NV; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to be directed to the family.
