Jane (Princess Leya) Bartels, 6 - November 30, 2012Jane “Princess Leyha” Bartels 6, of Brady passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at her home after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Services will take place Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m. at Brady High School with the Rev. Robert Litzenberger officiating. Burial will be conducted at the Gaslin Cemetery near Brady.
Bartels lived in the Brady community and was currently a kindergartner in the Brady school system.
Her contagious smile and positive attitude spread to the people around her, the family said. She had a love for life that no one had ever seen, and always had compassion for those around her.
Bartels’ brother, Hunter, was a large part of her life and she always loved and protected him. She was the leader of her huge group of cousins and everybody’s best friend, according to family members. She also had a special friend, Randin Hood, a soldier deployed to Afghanistan who “adopted” her.
She was preceded in death by: her grandfathers—Dan Stewart and Gerald Brown; great-grandparents—LaVonne and Larry Spurgin; great-aunt, Sherry Lynn Spurgin; great-uncle, Gerald Brown; a cousin Brianna Brown.
Survivors include: her father, Jason Bartels of Maxwell; her mother, Katie Stewart of North Platte; brother, Hunter Bartels of North Platte; grandparents—Sue Spurgin and Kathy Hoffman, both of Brady; great-grandmother, Velma Jean Brown of Brady; aunts and uncles—Dan and Torrey Stewart of Curtis, Jeremy and Becky Bartels, Jill Miller and Angel Hoffman, all of Brady, and Mark and April Hoffman of Cozad; numerous other family members and friends.
