Leslie (Stauss) Lehrman, 69 - December 05, 2012Leslie Gail (Stauss) Lehrman, 69, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Gardiner Home, Hospice of the Valley, following a six-year battle with lung cancer.

A celebration of life ceremony will be conducted at Palo Cristi Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m., 3535 E. Lincoln Dr., Paradise Valley, AZ.
Lehrman was born Aug. 4, 1943, at Friend to Calvin and Yvonne (Nicholson) Burkett. She grew up in Fairbury and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1961.
On Feb. 14, 1964, she married Kenneth Stauss at Fairbury. To this union, two sons and a daughter were born.
She resided at Gothenburg for more than 25 years, where she was a homemaker, member of the First Presbyterian Church, co-founder of Main Street Hair Design, and loved to play golf and Bridge, the family said.
In 1992, she moved to Lincoln where she graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce with a diploma in travel and tourism. She loved to travel and all things geography, according to family members.
Lehrman moved to Phoenix in 1993 where she worked for America West Airlines.
On Oct. 26, 1996, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Lehrman. The couple enjoyed their retired life together, attending their grandsons’ sporting activities and spending time with friends and family as well taking a much-awaited trip to Europe, family said.
Three years ago, 2009, she and her daughter made a pact to share her journey with lung cancer via a social media campaign to help increase awareness that anyone can get lung cancer—Lehrman was never a smoker—decrease the disease’s stigma and raise funds for research. Lehrman became a source of hope and inspiration to many within the lung cancer community.
She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Burkett.
Survivors include: her mother, Yvonne (Don) Aken of Fairbury; her husband, Bob Lehrman of Phoenix; her three children—Tobe Stauss (Linda Aden) of Lincoln, Aaron (Terra) Stauss of Mesa, AZ, and Jennifer (Roman) Windrum of Omaha; a sister, Kimberly (Curt) Frey of Lincoln; three step-children—Peter (Laura) Lehrman of Roswell, GA, Lianne Lehrman and Ruthe (Steve) Ater of Phoenix; seven grandchildren—Cooper and Bennett Stauss, Campbell and Hudson Windrum, Sammy Bleeker, Eliot Lehrman and Ashley Ater; three nieces—Megan Lange, Kylie Flynn and Kaitlin Flynn; numerous extended family members.

Sock Monkeys Against Cancer,” a gang of philanthropic monkeys that provides tangible support to those battling cancer and reminding them no one fights it alone.
