Robert Wade, 76 - December 08, 2012Robert “Bob” R. Wade, 76, of Johnson Lake passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Elwood with the Rev. Chuck Olsen officiating. Burial will take place at the Elwood Cemetery.
A visitation will be on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Elwood.
Wade was born Sept. 5, 1936, east of Elwood to Lowell E. and Alice L. (Fong) Wade. He graduated from Lexington High School with the Class of 1954.
He later attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before joining the Army National Guard. It was at boot camp where he met his eventual wife, Catherine Clough.
On Dec. 7, 1958, he married Catherine Clough at Versailles, KY. To this union, three children were born. The couple made resided in the Elwood area where he farmed with his father for several years.
In 1969, Wade and his family moved to California where he was employed with trucking. A few years later, they moved to Waverly where he worked at Goodyear and National Crane.
In 1974, he moved back to Lexington where he resumed farming. He was also involved with some real estate speculation, but farming always remained his passion, said family.
On March 3, 1984, he was united in marriage to Barbara Morris. The couple resided on a farm near Johnson Lake before eventually moving to a home at Lakeview Acres. Following his wife’s passing in 2008, he returned to the farm where he lived and worked until his health would no longer allow.
Wade was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Elwood. He had also been involved with the Lions Club in earlier years.
Among his many enjoyments were farming, working with cattle, traveling and Husker football, according to family members. He was also a bit of a philanthropist, having created and helped fund multiple local scholarships and charitable causes.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Barbara; his parents, Lowell and Alice; a brother, Lowell Dennis Wade; nephew, Lowell Chad Wade.
Survivors include: his daughter, Sonia (Randy) Howard of Gothenburg; two sons—Greg Wade of Elm Creek and Todd Wade of Lincoln; two step-sons—Tim (Allison) Wamsley of Salt Lake City, UT, and Scott (Debra) Wamsley of Alabama; step-daughter, Sheri (Rick) Ballhorst of Grand Island; sister, Marilyn (Myron) Dawson of Elwood; four grandchildren—Monte (Amy) Brummet, Tasha Brummet, Sam Brummet and Rachel Howard; two great-grandchildren—Brenna Brummet and Tripp Brummet; five step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; his significant other, Carol Stalker of Kearney; numerous other relatives.
Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
