Department raising funds for heart unit

Annual Fireman’s Ball event kicks off Saturday with barbecue.

One of the organizers of this year’s Fireman’s Ball Saturday is not promoting the event only because of good food and music.

Most importantly, proceeds from the Fireman’s Ball will help buy a 12-lead electrocardiograph machine, according to Wade Geiken, a firefighter and emergency medical technician.

Geiken said the equipment, priced from $25,000 to $30,000, transmits heart information to Gothenburg and other hospitals while the patient is in one of the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department’s two ambulances.
