More than a memorial, Alpine Wall offers a message

Thank you.

That is the simple, yet powerful message the Alpine Wall of Honor in Alpine, CA, strives to convey.

In a small town 1,400 miles from Gothenburg, a memorial was built five years ago to honor every man and woman who ever put on a uniform for any branch the United States military.

Since its dedication on Memorial Day 2011, over 700 names have been added to the wall.

“We recently expanded and have room for 1,200 and expect those to be filled quickly,” said founder Dan Foster who grew up in Plainview. “The response has been overwhelming.”

Foster said the idea was simple: to recognize the sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the military.

Names of people from all over the country grace the wall, including some veterans from Nebraska.

Gothenburg High School graduate Lucas Foster was added to that wall.
