They counted the days to go home

Like many other veterans of the Vietnam War, Stu Simmons counted down the days until he could leave the war-torn country in Southeast Asia.

“I was there a year and a day,” Simmons says.

The Brady resident describes his experience in Vietnam as “hell.”

“And if you weren’t there, you have no idea of what we went through,” Simmons says.

The member of both the 1st and 3rd 82nd Field Artillery got a chance to reminisce with other vets who understand during an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., June 5-7 for Vietnam veterans in Nebraska.
