Gothenburg places 12 at SWC meet

The snow covered Nebraska Sandhills provided a beautiful, serene backdrop for the Southwest Conference wrestling tournament last Friday, but the atmosphere inside the gymnasium was anything but serene. The eight teams that make up the Southwest Conference traveled north to Valentine for the tournament, and to no-one’s surprise the host team came away with the conference team trophy.

With several ranked and two unbeaten wrestlers, Valentine has been the team to beat all year. The real battle was for the runner-up position, with Gothenburg and Broken Bow once again battling on the mat for that title. At the end of the day it was the Broken Bow Indians in second place with 170 points, 70 points behind the leader Valentine. Gothenburg finished third in team points with 156. Individually, the Swedes produced 12 medalists in the tournament.
