Lady Swedes advance to subdistrict finals

NORTH PLATTE—The Swede volleyball team played at the North Platte High School in the subdistrict tournament on Monday, Oct. 30. Gothenburg played Chase County, who they beat earlier in the season, two sets to one.

The Swedes started the first set slow, but were able to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the score. Gothenburg would hold on for a 25-18 win. Momentum switched hands as the Swedes played out of system for most of the second set and lost 25-11. Gothenburg battled in the third as the lead kept bouncing from team to team, with Gothenburg eventually creating the needed distance in score for the win, 25-23.

The Lady Swedes found themselves back on track as they were able to maintain the lead at the end for a 25-18 win. The 3-1 victory puts them in the finals against Ogallala.

“I think tonight we really had to search and find something that was going to work for us. I think if you would ask the girls, they aren’t pleased with how they performed, but we got out of there with a win and that is all that matters, especially in the post season,” said Coach Mahlberg. “We get to play tomorrow.”
