Village board votes to increase sewer rates $5

Brady residents will see an increase in their sewer rates beginning Sept. 1 to help pay for more equipment necessary to make the wastewater collection system function properly.

During their monthly meeting on July 13, village board members approved a $5 increase to the current $14.47 monthly sewer fee. Over the next five years, the additional funds will cover the $63,000 approximate cost of a sewage grinder to be installed at the lift station.

“It’s an expensive piece,” said Gary Steele, engineer with Miller & Associates Consulting Engineers of Kearney. “But materials coming down the sewer have changed so equipment has to change too.”

The village has battled plugged sewer lines for awhile, long before the lagoons were rehabilitated.
