James ‘J.P.’ R. Parmenter, age 81, of Kearney, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the Grand Island Veteran’s Hospital.

Celebration of life services was held on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Horner Lieske McBride and Kuhl Funeral and Cremation

Services were held in Kearney. Military honors was provided by the National Guard Funeral Honors Team, Kearney American Legion Post #52 and the Kearney V.F.W. Post #759.

Jim was born on December 8, 1937 in Moorhead, Minnesota, to Miles and Myrtle (Iverson) Parmenter. He served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. Jim worked in the Kearney area as a machinist for several years. He enjoyed hunting, his passions were his family and drag racing.

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Michele Lewis and her husband Bradford of Cambridge, grandchildren and spouses, Trevor Fleischer, Torey Fleischer, Ryann Lewis, Brady Lewis, Taylor (Jordan) Lewis all of Cambridge, Jericca Lewis of Wauneta, NE, Taron (Jenae) Lewis of Lincoln, great granddaughter, Ariel Morgan of Cambridge, sister, Dorothy Smith and her husband Floyd of Pennsylvania; brother in law, Junior Schultz of Pennsylvania; several Nieces and Nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, James “Slugger” Parmenter; brothers, Marlyn, Pete and Kenny; sisters, Mary Jane Grosz, Phyllis Forgey and Joyce Schultz, sister in laws Gladys and Mary, brother in laws Dan Grosz and Tom Forgey.
