Kelly Lee Smith, 53 of rural Cozad, passed away Wednesday, July 28 at Omaha Bergen Mercy Medical Center. Another victim of COVID-19.

Kelly was born December 8, 1967 at Gothenburg. On August 8, 1990 he married Karla Scarrow. Kelly made it his priority to help anyone in need, expecting nothing in return. His biggest love was his wife and best friend, Karla, whom he spent every day with. If anyone needed advice or someone to take to, or just to be a friend, he was there. Three years ago, Kelly found God. Through his savior, Jesus Christ, he began to lead a better life.

Kelly is survived by his children, uncles Jimmy and Elle Smith, Larry Smith, aunt Sandy and Wade Stear, Betty and Barry Strasburg, Great Uncle Clarence and Wilma Putnam, sister Carolyn and Clay Dewey, brothers Danial and Dusty Tabor, Ed and Tanya Imler, brothers in law Shawn and Lorrie Scarrow, numerous other uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Kelly is preceded in death by his children Kelsey and Jordan, his grandparents Wilbur and Ester Kruse, Ed and Virginia Smith, uncles Don, Ed, and Glen Smith, his Father Bill Smith, in laws Gaylene Scarrow, Don Scarrow, Damon Scarrow, and many friends.

A celebration of Kelly’s life will be held Saturday August 14th, at 10 A.M. in his hayfield north of Cozad in order to practice social distancing. It was Kelly’s last wish that everyone get vaccinated and never have to suffer like he did.
