Fresh Seasons Soft Opening

Fresh Seasons Market, by Petersons, had their soft opening this past week. The new store is much larger than their previous location and offers a variety of new products. They have more cash registers available, a bigger deli, and a seating area.

Local Bank Robbery

Gothenburg Police were called to the Flatwater Bank for an armed robbery around 1:30pm on Thursday, August, 19th, 2021. Upon arrival, the officer was advised the suspect was being detained in the bank. The suspect, later identified as Wesley Cassidy age 26 of Wallace, Ne, was taken into custody and interviewed at the Gothenburg Police Department and then booked into the Dawson County Jail.

Saturday afternoon to Sunday guests of Gary and Brenda Davis were Michele Arnold, Logan, Huston, Bronson and Bentley of Kearney and Sarah Petr, Dylan, Ansley and Taylor of Hastings. On Saturday evening they attended the wedding of Melissa Wilkinson and Darin Williams in North Platte.

The Gothenburg Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for grand marshal to lead the Harvest Festival parade on Saturday, Sept. 18. This year’s festival theme is “Survivor: Riding Through the Pandemic.” Nominations can be made by emailing the Chamber at or by calling 537-3505. Suggestions will be accepted until Sept. 3.

The Naughtiest Thing I Ever Did

“The naughtiest thing I ever did was slap my dad on his back when I got mad,” shared my grandmother, Anita O’Hare, as she stood in the kitchen cooking lunch. I thought this was so weird because I’d always heard that as a child she was such a kind and caring person. O’Hare, who was born in the blizzard of 1949 at her grandma’s house in the middle of nowhere (Eggbert, Wyoming) was always one to help others and not really judge anyone. As she herself told me, “ I was always friends or nice to the smelly kids.”

Cozad – The Nebraska Enterprise Fund will be holding meet and greet receptions in Central and Western Nebraska on Sept 1 and 2. Including, a noon meeting in Cozad on Sept 1 at the Elks Club’s “Library” Room from 11 am to Noon.
