Kathleen (Kay) Grove 89, of Gothenburg, NE, passed away Nov. 29, 2021 at her home in Gothenburg. Kay is a loved and devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. She relished the relationships with cousins and her pen-pal from her youth. Kay enjoyed having family for coffee and cookies; a tradition that was passed to her by her mother. She enjoyed her gardens, baking and cooking wonderful meals with family during the holidays and was proud of her Swedish roots, from which she pulled recipes and decorative styles in the holidays. Kay was caring and committed in her fields of education and nursing toward everyone she served.
Vera L. McCance of Cozad passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 81. Vera was born January 22, 1940 at her family’s home in Cozad, Nebraska to Merlin and Mildren (Warren) Earll. She attended rural schools near Gothenburg and Cozad. Vera married Dick Bullis in 1957 and had two children, Denise and Richie. In 1966, Vera married Richard McCance and had a son, Shawn. She was well known for her babysitting and ironing. Vera enjoyed watching football and cheering on her favorite teams, the Huskers and Dallas Cowboys. She loved music and singing. Church was important to Vera and she devoted much of her life in the missionary work and serving funeral dinners at the church. Vera enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, board games and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved watching her family grow and welcomed new family members with open arms and an open heart. Vera was very humble, giving and willing to help anyone out in need and will be missed dearly by many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Merlin Earll. Survivors include her husband, Richard McCance of Cozad; sister, Kathy Duyck of Longmont, CO; daughter Denise Bullis of Cozad; sons, Richie Bullis of Beatrice and Shawn McCance (Jennifer McCance) of Glenwood, IA; grandchildren, Ashly (Raff) Ducker and Brett of Lincoln, Brianna (McCance) Wisecup and Zach of Papillion, Brooke-Lynn (McCance) Rascon and Martin of Cozad and Destani McCance of Lexington; great grandchildren, Lilly, Layla and Linnea Rascon and Ali Wisecup; and numerous extended family.
Florence Irene Oliver of Cozad passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Emerald Care Nursing at the age of 89. Irene was born September 17, 1932 in Cozad, Nebraska to Lloyd and Florence (Glass) Griffith. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1950 and was employed at the Cozad Community Hospital for several years before attending nursing school in Omaha. Following her schooling, she returned to Cozad for 2 years. In 1963, she moved to California where she was employed at the Los Angeles County General Hospital. In 1967, she moved to Hawaii. Irene married Thomas Oliver in 1974 and the couple lived in Hawaii, Panama and California. She returned to Cozad in 2005 to be close to family. Irene enjoyed golfing and spending time with her family. She loved watching sports and was an avid Husker fan. She was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; brothers, David Griffith and his wife Dianne and LaVern Griffith; sisters, Jeanette Lauer and Dorothy Mangis and great nephew, Scott Lauer. Survivors include sister in law, Kathy Griffith of North Platte; brother in laws, Robert Lauer of Gothenburg and Gale Mangis of Salisbury, NC; nephews, Scott Mangis, Steve Lauer, Daniel Lauer, Phillip Griffith and Paul Griffith; nieces Deb Linn, Sherri Stewart, Terri Commins, Angela Mueting, Suzanne Smaltz, Lori Dale, Suzanne King and Marcia Harnly; and numerous other relatives and friends.
