GOTHENBURG MELONS JUNIORS

The Gothenburg Melons Juniors started the baseball season on June 19th with a win over Minden (5-1). They ended the regular season July 16th against Holdrege Farm Bureau Juniors with a loss (10-7). The finished the season with a 5-4 record. In the nine games played the Melons Juniors made two hundred ninety-one plate appearances and had two hundred thirty-three at bats for the year.

Gothenburg Senior Melons went lost a spirited affair against McCook in District play at Minden on Friday July 23 in a walk off in the bottom of the seventh inning when the winning run was scored on an error. The game was close throughout in a back-and-forth contest. McCook MNB Seniors walked away with an 8-7 victory moving on to the winner’s bracket. the loss dropped the Melons to 0-1 in the double elimination tournament.

Melons Are District Runner-Up

The Gothenburg Junior Melons Baseball team took a hit in the loss column Tuesday July 13, when the Broken Bow Junior legion ball club defeated them by a score of 8-0 in District play.

The Gothenburg Melons Juniors began their quest to the State Tournament as they began play at the Nebraska American Legion B6 District Baseball Tournament held in Gothenburg starting on Friday.
