The Gothenburg Junior High School seventh-grade “A” team held off Holdrege on Tuesday afternoon, 21-19.

Holdrege outscored the Swedes 8-2 in the final quarter to create some tense moments for the hometown team.

The Gothenburg boys’ basketball team owned the third quarter in Saturday’s game versus Perkins County.

Such stifling ownership ultimately gave the Swedes their first victory of the season — topping the Plainsmen 63-33 — sending the home crowd happy.

Girls continue sizzling start

The Gothenburg High School girls’ basketball team, and its unblemished record are intact so far.

Alexis Bliven dropped in a game-best 21 points — outscoring Perkins County by herself — as the Swedes walloped the Plainsmen 56-17 on a snowy Saturday afternoon.

She’s got holiday spirit

GOTHENBURG HIGH SCHOOL cheerleader Addisyn Gibbens and the rest of the spirit squad was in the holiday spirit on Saturday, wearing Christmas-themed sweaters with red proms. The Swedes swept a doubleheader versus Perkins County.

OGALLALA — Three Gothenburg Junior High School wrestlers earned individual weight class champion accolades at the Ogallala Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Carsen Farr, Tyler Trumbley and Christopher Flores all won their weight divisions.
