SWEDES FINISH FOURTH AT STATE HOOPS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Gothenburg Lady Swedes took the ‘Thinkin’ Lincoln motto and went above and beyond to reach a new pinnacle motto of Stayin’ in Lincoln while finishing fourth place overall in the 2022 Nebraska Girls Basketball Class C1 State Championships that were held in Lincoln this past week.

SWEDE VASITY GIRLS HEADED TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT

The Gothenburg Swede Girls varsity played the Milford girls Varsity Friday night with a State Basketball Tournament bid up for grabs. The Lady Swedes came away with a win by a score of 36-29 at the final buzzer. The Swedes will now move on to the State Basketball Tournament in Lincoln with the win. Gothenburg was down at the half by a score of 16-13 then came out of the locker room in the second half with fire and determination as they outscored Milford 11-4 in the third period and 12-9 in the final quarter of play to take the win in front of the home fans.

SWEDE BOYS FIGHT HARD AT DISTRICTS

The Gothenburg Swede Varsity Boys Basketball Team opened the District tournament Monday night against the Holdrege Dusters and came away with a victory by a score of 51-34. Gothenburg fell behind early in the game and trailed 16-9 after the first quarter of play. The game was all Swedes after that as Gothenburg outscored the Dusters in the other three quarters to bring home the win. Gothenburg held Holdrege to single digit scoring in the final three periods while scoring in double digits the rest of the game.
