The dust has been blown off the court in Gothenburg as basketball season rapidly approaches. Basketball is one of the most momentum driven sports out there and games can swing back and forth as if on a pendulum, however there are certain factors that can be controlled for. A glimpse into Gothenburg Basketball reveals some of those factors.
As winter sports seasons are rapidly beginning for both Jr. High and High School, Gothenburg Public Schools wanted to ensure that everyone is aware of the statewide directed health measures (DHM’s) and restrictions that will affect attendance at both home and away games. Only immediate family members living in the same household of the student-athlete will be allowed to attend games at home and at away competitions. These family members will be on a pass list for entrance and maska will be required to be worn at all times while inside school facilities. No other students or adults will be allowed to attend. There will also be no concessions available and no outside food or drink is permitted. The goal of these guidelines is to keep students safe and to be able to continue to participate in activity seasons. The DHM restrictions are fluid and can change at any time.
If you saw Gothenburg Football late in the season, you wouldn’t imagine that the same team lost several games by great margins early on in the year. For the Swedes, the tough early schedule served as steppingstones for their late season success and their run to secure a spot in the playoffs. The team finished the season 6-4 after losing in overtime to Lincoln Christian in the first round of the playoffs. Gothenburg football secured some impressive wins over undefeated teams throughout the year and definitely showed some grit as they seemingly improved from game to game.
